This book has pieces that appeal to beginner teens as well as younger students. I'm glad to have something that beginner teens can play that isn't too young sounding for them. The duet parts add another dimension to their music and the smiles just don't stop! Students love these pieces and feel they have really accomplished something when they're able to play them with the duet part. They sound so cool!
The description, including the title, specifies for "beginning" teenagers. But I have used it with ALL of my pre-teen and teen age students, as well as some beginning adults. The music is fun for my most experienced (they still have to concentrate) and satisfying for beginners. The music is pretty "new age" and the tunes are pretty similar so far (yet I haven't done a lot of the pieces yet) , but it's well worth purchasing, even if you only use a few numbers.
I have an adult student recovering from a stroke, and this book has been extremely helpful. The pieces sound mature and contemporary, but are simple enough for her to experience success as she works at regaining her skills. I also use it for my older beginner students, but it really shines for my teens. The authors have additional support materials available on their blog, and a support group for teachers on FB that is highly recommended.
I've been using this since I received it. My 11-14 year olds are enjoying the duets...which are highly valuable in terms of improving steady rhythm, sight reading and expressive playing. Good work, Wunderkeys!
My preteen and teen beginners are loving this book!
This is really great music. My students adore and request it. It's so fun to play, both for them and for me, and audiences enjoy listening.While it says "teen" and would be great for teen beginners, I have used it with younger students and have had great success. I have a 7-year-old (who has struggled a lot with reading) playing one of these pieces currently. At two pages, it's her longest piece so far, but she jumped right in and has done AMAZING with it. It's great for strengthening her skills and stretching her confidence without needing to actually move her forward in a method book.
I just used the Rock Repertoire book yesterday for the first time. It's a perfect fit for my adult student who needs extra practice in branching out from middle C position and more confidence in the C five finger scale before she starts playing hands together. I'm so excited about it! I love that the pieces are simple enough to be a confidence builder yet mature enough sounding so as not to be babyish.
