I've used this on all four of your kids, now it's the youngest turn. It is super simple for the kids to do. Also we are homeschoolers, this was their 'language arts'. The most important part is they retain all of this. I didn't stress and let the kids do a page or two a day. The other day my two older ones took the ASVAB and scored the highest on these section.
I am very disappointed! I purchaed this workbook for my 10 year old daughter after a conversation with her teacher about needing to strengthen her comprehension skills. Well, when we received the book, the first thing I noticed is that there were 8 loose pages—apparently torn from the workbook—that contained another child’s name and work. Disappointing. After scrolling through the book, we noticed that there was more work from another child contained on the sheets. So unless we erase all the answers, which doesnt guarantee they will not show, my daughter cant work in it. Disappointed.
I ordered Sylvan's "Fifth Grade Super Reading Success" and "Fifth Grade Reading Success: Complete Learning Kit".Much to my surprise I found that though the covers are different the books are identical. For some reason I assumed that the content would be different because the covers were, it was not.As the picture for the kit shows the kit includes books on Vocabulary, Writing, and Reading as well as CDs ect. The kit is neat as it addresses a lot of needs kids may have."Fifth Grade Super Reading Success" is simply the above three books bound as a single book.While the Comprehensive Curriculum series Master Skills Reading Comprehension, Grade 5 is designed to be pretty much self teaching this series is not. A student will simply have to have the careful guidance of an adult. I have no doubt that this workbook would be an excellent supplement for anyone going to a Sylvan Learning Center and expect that is why they were published.Another difference is that the academic level of the Sylvan products are simply higher than the Comprehensive Curriculum.While the Comprehensive Curriculum series lets you look at sample pages which lets you see some of the words your child would be dealing with Sylvan has not yet done so. By publishers giving potential buyers a look inside they can save us time and money.I am returning both the kit and the success book, at my expense!!!! This could have been avoided if I could have seen inside the books. My wife, a certificated teacher, told me that the books would not be what was needed for independent learners and she was right! As Usual!! However it is still a lot less expensive than getting into a car and driving to a bookstore to look at the title and I am the type that wants to exhaust all possible roads to success before making a decision that may stress out a student.I am giving this review three stars because the book and kit are both good for what they are but buyers should be aware that it is going to be at what Sylvan considers 5th grade level, not what may be typical in your local public school and will definitely need adult supervision to be implemented.
We purchased this book for a grandchild who lost a key part of reading proficiency. The book is labeled for 5th grade readers and our grandchild is in 6th grade but unless he gets strong 5th grade understanding he won't be able to catch up. He did not get his feelings hurt because he understands that he has an issue and is willing to work to correct it.I emailed the seller asking whether they felt they could get it to me before Christmas. I received a great response back telling me they felt it would. Customer Service went out their way to be responsive & I am happy to say it arrived in plenty of time. I would happily buy from this seller again.
I needed this book to tutor an underprivileged young boy, I hoped to get a fairly priced book COMPLETE WITH ALL NECESSARY CHAPTERS but the first 20 pages (chapters 1 & 2) were torn out. I’m very disappointed, as it also took nearly 2 weeks to arrive. VERY SLOW SHIPPING
I use this book for my 5th grader for homeschool and there are 3 sections of this book Reading, vocabulary and writing. I would buy from this company again..
The work is great but the book is falling apart..Our 5th grade sylvan math book is not, so it's not us being overly rough
